That’s the first thing people say about Amy Shaffer Mabion. Friends and family say you could hear her laugh for miles and her smile could wash away your worst day. She was always helping others, and always showering love onto her children. She walked in the faith and hope she had in God and shared it whenever she could. But on July 31, 2017, this devoted mother of three young children was taken from them when her husband shot and killed her in their home.
Jayden, 16, Braylen, 13, and Trinity, 9, now have to live the rest of their lives without her. Without her hugs and comfort after a heartbreak. Without hearing her laughter and holding her hand. She won’t be there to see them graduate, or on their wedding days. Her sons won’t look into the stands after making a basket or scoring a touchdown and see their mom cheering them on. And her daughter someday will have to shop for that perfect prom dress without her mother there.
Amy’s husband, Philip, had been diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder by two separate therapists, and it was because of his uncontrolled narcissism that he refused to let her live another day. Amy’s husband selfishly took her from everyone she loved and then turned the gun on himself. His actions mean these three children will grow up without either of their parents by their side.
In her 36 years here on Earth, Amy’s heart of gold impacted everyone she met. From brightening the day of a person she passed on the sidewalk, to cheering up a neighbor with her infectious laughter, she was loved so deeply because of the love she gave back to others in return. But unfortunately, all the love in the world isn’t enough to provide her children with what they need now.
Jayden, Braylen, and Trinity are now being raised by Amy’s mother Lynda and her husband Ben, affectionately known as Mimi and Haha, who are providing them with as much love, comfort and stability as they can. However, Amy’s death left no will and no financial resources. Therefore, although friends and family have rallied together to do everything they can for Jayden, Braylen, and Trinity--to provide them with as normal a life as possible, full of love, laughter, sports, school activities and memories--they still need help.
Raising kids is an endlessly growing expense, especially for these children who have lost so much, but that’s where The Heart of Gold Fund can help. Please look into your heart and consider making a contribution so that these three beautiful kids can continue to thrive and make their mother proud.
“For whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” –Matthew 25:40
Amy always used scripture to bring her comfort and strength on her hardest days, and now she would want us to turn to God, to have Hope, and to live each day with optimism, laughter and a BIG smile just as she did. She is now at Home with her God in Heaven, free from the heartbreak of this world, and forever grateful for the love and support given to her children.
